Places on my list for a visit in the next 3 years or so, but no firm plans yet made include:

African safari. It might seem odd that someone who is as excited by wildlife as I am, hasn’t been on a traditional safari to Africa. But one reason for this is that most of Africa’s governments don’t like the idea of two men sharing a hotel bedroom. So my search is on for more tolerant destinations and lodges, with excellent wildlife-viewing opportunities.  Your thoughts??  UPDATE Kenya’s Maasai Mara has been booked

Australia. I have a long-hel d dream of snorkelling with whale sharks on the Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia.

Japan. My favourite destination will be visited again (and again). Unfortunately I didn’t get tickets for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

China. A second trip has been booked, covering lesser known cities

Laos and Vietnam I feel like combining these two Southeast Asian destinations on the same trip. Since a child I’ve been keen to see the country the ‘Yankees’ went to war over, though I’m more keen to see the north and central parts, than the more westernised south. Laos looks so traditional, calm and tranquil, so I want to go there before it changes into a clone of its high octane neighbours.

The Arctic I’ve been to arctic Finland a couple of times in winter and loved the snow and landscapes. I’ve also experienced extreme cold in Mongolia and Siberia and found that exhilarating. So I’m very keen to go to Svalbard in wintertime to see an even more extreme environment, with glaciers, icebergs, polar bears, and hopefully the Northern Lights.
