The Groucho club is a famous private members club in the heart of London’s Soho. Its membership is drawn from the artistic and media types whose offices are in this part of the city. Mr A and I ate there on a Thursday evening in mid February 2022, as guests of a friend involved in film production. The Groucho has a labarythine layout across multiple floors of a Soho townhouse, with two restaurants, a couple of bars, private rooms and an outside terrace. Walls are adorned with a great collection of contemporary artworks by club members, including Damien Hirst, Peter Blake and Gerald Laing. The atmosphere is relaxed but buzzing.
Club rules forbid the use of cameras, to protect the privacy of its members, so I can’t show you the dishes I enjoyed in their “Dining Room” restaurant. I started with 3 pan fried Scottish scallops in the shell, with sea urchin butter, salsify puree, sea veg and a brioche garlic crumb. This was delicious! 10/10
For my main I went for Cornish chicken breast with Boulanger potatoes, roscoff onion puree and a terrific bone marrow and tarragon sauce. The chicken was so moist and tender and the sauce was amazing. 10/10
We had a fabulous evening in the Groucho!
Overall 10/10
